Overview

It is a miniature circular quick-disconnect bayonet connector. It is widely used in applications that require universal miniature cylindrical bayonet connectors. Featuring an environmentally sealed design, it offers four socket mounting options, including narrow flange and wide flange wall-mounted sockets, cable-connected sockets, and locknut sockets, making it a reliable connector in aerospace environments.

The History of MIL-DTL-26482

          Developed in the 1950s, MIL-DTL-26482 originated as a derivative standard of MIL-C-5015, which the military sought to adapt for thinner wire gauges. At the time, MIL-C-5015 was regarded as an excellent technology, but it utilized contacts of 16 AWG (American Wire Gauge) and larger sizes. With the advancement of electronic technology, 18 AWG and 20 AWG wires began to gain popularity. Although the 16 AWG contacts of the MIL-C-5015 series could still be used with these thinner wires, their performance would degrade.

          MIL-DTL-26482, by contrast, belongs to a miniature product family. While it also offers two contact sizes (16 AWG and 12 AWG), it is primarily designed with 20 AWG contacts—one gauge smaller than that of MIL-C-5015. This design of MIL-DTL-26482 was better aligned with the range of wires being developed at that time.

         The widespread popularity of MIL-DTL-26482 connectorsis largely attributed to their long-standing reputation forexceptional durability, reliability, and performance.

When engineers design systems that are next-generation iterationsof those previously using MlL-DTL-26482 connectors, they willmost often continue to adopt MlL-DTL-26482. This is not onlybecause the connector has a proven track record, but alsobecause it typically offers an advantage in terms of cost.
